Marlux celebrates 5,000 accident-free work days

The 85 employees at our Marlux-Stradus concrete products factory in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium recently reached 5,000 days without a lost-time injury (LTI).​
​
The team are responsible for approximately 320,000 concrete products rolling off the production line every year, and have taken rigorous precautions to ensure safety, involving both proactive and reactive measures.​
​
“Congratulations to the team, who have worked hard on our safety culture” says Plant Manager Marc Paredis. “Our factory operates around the clock in three shifts. Our people work continuously. There is a risk of accidents occurring not only on the machines and the finishing lines, but also when transporting raw materials and moving packs around the site.”

International Technical Cement Programme

Our ITC programme is designed to attract, develop and retain the very best graduate technical talents within our Euro­pean cement operations. It is a unique opportunity for our graduates, offering them challenging assignments in multi-cultural environments, working abroad, and working with experienced colleagues who share their expertise.​

Programme participants will get in-depth information and training about the production of cement and valuable knowledge of CRH operations. The programme also creates unique networking opportunities for the participants and for their specialist mentors. Preparing the leaders of tomorrow and investing in their talents is a real team effort and brings huge rewards.​

Central Pre-Mix receives NSSGA Platinum Award

Our Sullivan Road Gravel Plant, a Central Pre-Mix operation, recently received the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) Platinum Award of Excellence for Community Relations.​
​
The NSSGA Platinum Awards for Community Relations and Environmental Excellence are the highest recognition that a single quarry across the US can receive for community outreach and sustainable practices.​
​
The Central Pre-Mix team at Sullivan Road is the embodiment of corporate social responsibility. Employees raised $11,000 for the Corporate United Way Fund Drive Campaign, built homes for those in need as part of a Habitat for Humanity build and arranged for mixer trucks to block off intersections in support of public safety for the 2018 Lilac Bloomsday Run.​

“Each year we bring in more than 500 elementary school children to tour our mine and we work through local education and research foundations to showcase the different opportunities for jobs and careers in our industry,” said Jeremiah Lemons, Vice President of Americas Materials North West Region.

CRH the Supplier of Choice for Amazon Fulfilment Centres

Amazon’s mission is "to build a place where people can come to find and discover anything they might want to buy online,“ and it is not surprising that it has more than 100 fulfilment centres located across the United States. Layton Construction, a national construction services firm, selected CRH as the supplier of choice for national account projects to construct these fulfilment centres.​
​
Constructing this network of centres nationwide is a massive undertaking that will require collaborative work and partnering to identify solutions early on in each project’s lifecycle. This will enable CRH to consider how best to coordinate materials and complex schedules to leverage the resources of CRH’s network of businesses to provide the aggregates, asphalt, ready mixed concrete, precast storm water boxes, reinforced concrete pipe and precast catch basins, electrical vaults and precast wall panels to get the work done.
